Betty Mae (Sanders) Spence

May 23, 1944 — August 30, 2025

Jacksonville, FL

Betty Mae (Sanders) Spence, 81, of Jacksonville Florida, passed away Saturday, August 30.

Betty was born in Madison, West Virginia on May 23,1944 to the late J. Bethel Sanders and Dollie Mae Sanders. She was their only daughter and the middle child and is preceded in death by her brothers Jr. and Johnny.

A devoted Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, Betty is survived by daughters Amy, Cynthia (Cindy), Deanna, Constance (Connie), grandchildren Shane, Ashley, Zachary, Alissa, James, Joshua and Jacob, and Great Grandchildren Wyatt and Ronan.

For much of her career, she brought beauty to others as an accomplished hairdresser, known for her talent, eye for fashion, and warm personality. Later, she transitioned to corporate America, thriving in the field of IT and retiring as a testing specialist. As a single Mother, she often held at least two jobs and impossible to mention all her roles including real estate and bartending. Her sharp mind, strong work ethic, and commitment to excellence allowed her to excel in multiple careers.

Betty’s true joy was exploring the world through travel; she enjoyed every minute of it, returning with tales of adventure and fun that energized her for months. She was also an exceptional cook and talented baker and for years made every family celebratory cake with incredible creativity. Betty loved to dance, taking lessons for many years and dancing whenever she could. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren who made her smile by just entering the room.

Betty’s adventurous spirit, joie de vivre, and boundless love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Arrangements are pending.
