Obituary

Averol Alton Ball, 94, of Hewett, WV passed away peacefully, surrounded by family April 10, 2026.

Averol was born April 16, 1931 on Meadow Fork of Hewett. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Cella Skaggs Ball; father, Alton Ball; and his brother, Billy Ball.

He graduated from Scott High School in 1949 where he played football for the Skyhawks. Following graduation, Averol served his country in the United States Navy. He was an electrician for Union Carbide for 35 years. After retirement, he enjoyed farming, raising cattle, and following his three grandsons in whatever activity they were involved with.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of nearly 70 years, Jean Covey Ball; daughters, Darla Ball Fletcher (Eric); Kathy Ball Burgess; three grandsons, Travis Stringer (Lisa), Matt Fletcher (Ashley), and Adam Fletcher (Kilee); sister, Janet Ball Hager (Kenneth); and his cousin, Roy Ball (Vanessa). He had 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Averol will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV, with Roger McCauley officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial to follow in Memory Gardens in Madison, WV.
