Alvin A. “Spud” Watts 88, of West Hamlin, WV, widower of Rachel Williamson Watts, died peacefully in his sleep on November 26, 2025 at home. He was born June 13, 1937 a son of the late Alvin F. and Edna Parsons Watts.
He was a school bus driver in Lincoln County for many years, but his true purpose was his garden. Until the last summer of his life he could be found tending his garden, where he grew enough produce for himself, his family, his neighbors, and even his doctors.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was also preceded in death by his sister Jackie and his beloved granddaughter Caitlin Cremeans.
His is survived by four children: Patricia Gallagher of Huntington; Rhonda (Terry) Cremeans of Branchland; Helen (Barry) Applewhaite of Triangle, VA; and Albert (Bridget) Watts II of Pinch; grandchildren, Janette (Jared) Cremeans, Deidra Wiblen (daughters Alexis and Abigail), and Tyler (Ashley) Watts; siblings, Truman, Mary, Margaret, Thelma, and Edith.
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 29, 2025 at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home West Hamlin, WV, with Lennie Romans officiating. Burial will follow at Watson Cemetery Branchland, with military gravesite honors provided by American Legion Post 111 of Hamlin. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
