Robert David Grant Jr, 80, of Shepherdstown, WV passed away December 23, 2021. He was born June 25, 1941 in Wharton, WV to the late Robert David and Winona McClure Grant. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Ray Grant; and sister Kathy Jean Grant.

He is survived by his wife, Terry Speiser Grant; sons, Robert David Grant III of Leesburg, VA, John Wesley Grant of Leesburg, VA and Jason Ray Grant of Shepherdstown, WV; daughter, Leigh Ann Simmons of Stephen City, VA; grandchildren, Samantha Simmons Joyce, Colton Simmons, Wesley Grant, Austin Grant, Savannah Kidd Grant, Trenton Curtis Grant, Brooklyn Daniel Grant, Jackson Alexander Grant, and Logan Oliver Grant and Carson Elizabeth Grant; one great-granddaughter, Natalie Joyce; and one brother, Ronald Grant of Bob White, WV.

(1) He was a civil engineer with multiple complex engineering certifications; for which he used to excel at George Washington University in Washington DC (which he subsequently retired from). (2) He served on the USS Wasp (United States Navy Amphibious Assault Warship (pre Vietnam War). (3) Once discharged from the Navy, he had aspirations of being a forest ranger and moving his family to Alaska. Instead, he settled in Northern Virginia and became quite the accomplished outdoorsman. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and overall steward of the land. (4) He was an amazing provider for his family; as they never did without. (5) He was an exceptional gardener; which helped provide for his family. (6) He was on a bowling league for many years; garnering many trophies and accolades. (7) He was active in the neighborhood sporting gatherings, such as football games with his neighbors/friends to softball games with anyone in the neighborhood who wished to play. (8) Being quite the handy man (with an engineer’s task oriented mind), he was able to fix or build anything around the house (to which he took great pride in). (9) He loved to laugh…He had a good sense of humor and really enjoyed a good belly laugh. (10) He was an exceptional cook. He loved to cook meals from scratch and always tried new recipes. There was nothing he wouldn’t try to attempt in the kitchen---a picky eater he was not! (11) Above all else, Dad/Pops always stayed true to his beliefs and never waivered in his convictions. These are merely 11 of the attributes and accomplishments that Bob/Dad/Pops Grant possessed; for which, he was able to instill and pass these traits on to his children….His legacy is his hard work ethic, his sound advice and his continued advocacy to always be prepared and self-sufficient to which his children gleaned from him and will always be eternally grateful.
