Millard Junior Kessinger

March 8, 1940 — September 6, 2018

Millard "Junior" Kessinger, 78, of Foster,WV, formerly of Wharton, died suddenly September 6, 2018 at 5:40 pm at CAMC Memorial. Junior was preceded in death by parents, Pete and Jewel Kessinger of Alkol; sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Ralph Clark of Yawkey; and his son, Stacy Bryan Kessinger of Foster.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara Plumley Kessinger; daughter and husband, Dawn and Mike White of Sumerco, WV; grandchildren, Colton and Shayla White of Foster, Dustin White and Whitney Berry of Sumerco, Dalton Kessinger and Leah Kessinger of Bim; sister, Elois and Paul Ashley of Alkol; brothers, Victor and Evelyn Kessinger of Nitro and Bill and Sherry Kessinger of Low Gap; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a slew of friends.

Junior was an Army Veteran, UMWA member, a retired miner, and owner/ operator of J & B Welding of Foster. Junior actually probably retired several times, since he kept returning to some type of job. Junior was a pillar of the community. He never met a stranger. So many people called him friend. When you parted company, you were guaranteed to have a smile and sometimes you may wonder "what just happened?”, and he left with a great big smile on HIS face. His heart was big and full of compassion. He would literally give you the shirt off his back. His friends and family knew it would only take one phone call and he would be there, whether it be with food, money, tools, black tape or just a smile to" fix" the problem. If it was a "special part" you needed, it was guaranteed to be found in his garage and he'd surely give it (or at least try to sell it) to you. Any given morning Junior, also affectionately known as Gomer, was out and about making someone's day brighter just for having the privilege of meeting him and he'd invite you over for a visit..... Before that conversation was over he'd surely tell ya, "eat before you come though".

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, September 9 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with James Lawrence and Ron Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Park, Danville.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
