Lester Lee Kimbler
March 16, 1941 — May 30, 2020
Lester Lee Kimbler, 79, of Danville, passed away Saturday at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington with family by his side.
Mr. Kimbler was born here in Boone County and attended grade school and high school here. After graduating high school, he entered the U.S. Army and served four years as a military police officer. Part of his tour of duty was spent in France.
He returned to the United States and spent time in Texas and later in Indiana where he met and married his wife Linda. He returned to Boone County to raise his family. He worked as an electrician in the coal mine industry for more than two decades. He later went to work for the Boone County Department of Education where he retired.
Mr. Kimbler loved to garden, was an avid hunter, and a ham radio operator (KB8ZD). He also enjoyed four-wheeling. He was a man of few words, but was well known for cheesy dad jokes. He had a big heart and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 3 at the Kimbler Family Cemetery on Brown’s Branch Rd. in Danville with military graveside rites performed by Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578 of Madison, WV. There will be no visitation. The family will receive visitors at the home on Brown’s Branch Rd. immediately after the service.
Mr. Kimbler is survived by his wife Linda; daughters Laura Nelson and Lesley Kimbler; four brothers; one sister; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and one sister.
Arrangements are under the direction of Handley Funeral Home, Danville.
