Emmerson L. Bennett, 81, of Bolivar, passed away after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at his home. Emmerson was born on September 18, 1939 in Greenview, WV. He was the son of the late Ottie and Cloey (Myers) Bennett. He was preceded in death by all of his brothers, Clyde (Bobby), Emmett, Philip, Quentin and Glenn, and three sisters Adina Mitchell, Geraldine (Jerri) Hiland, and Mary Jane Watts. He was a graduate of Scott High School in Madison, WV. Emmerson retired in 2002 from Republic Steel in Massillon where he worked for over 30 years. He loved sports, especially baseball, the Yankees and Indians, gardening, hunting, fishing, and camping. He loved the outdoors.
He will be greatly missed by his children, stepdaughter Shelia Lubansky of Fairfield, OH, Joan Bennett of New Philadelphia, OH, Susan Cline of Navarre, OH, and John (Penny) Bennett of Lanett, AL, his six grandchildren, Ron Cihon, Kyle and Alex Cline, Melissa (Michael) Collins, Tom (Dena) Levengood, and John (Courtney) Levengood, nine great-grandchildren, his sister Annabelle Ixos of Bolivar, OH, his former wife, Blemia (Baisden) Bennett of Dover, OH, his brother-in-law Dwaine Hiland of Kansas City, MO, many nieces, nephews, extended family, caregivers and friends.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 from 6pm-8pm at the Paquelet Funeral Home, Massillon and one hour prior to a funeral service at 2pm on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at the Handley Funeral Home, 439 Phipps Ave Danville, WV 25053, please call 304-369-0718 or www.handleyfh.com for more information. Burial will be in Madison Memory Garden. Continuing with COVID-19 precautions, all attending will be asked to follow proper social distancing protocol and masks are required. If you are not feeling well, or if you have a compromised immune system, you are encouraged to stay home.
