Renee Carol Hager

Renee Carol Ball Hager 74 of Madison WV departed this life on Earth Monday, November 17 2014 at home suddenly and unexpectedly.

She was born on February 3, 1941 at home at Hewett, WV. She was the daughter of the late Ruth D. Bias Dolin and Nicholas Ball both of Hewett. She was also the step-daughter of Ciegel E. Dolin.

Renee was the loving wife of the late Thomas “Tommy” M. Hager for over 52 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Renee was a graduate of Scott High School, class of 1959, and Morris Harvey College, where she obtained her degree as a registered nurse. She later obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Management from WV State University. She was employed at Boone Memorial Hospital in various positions and titles for over 35 years. She was Director of Clinical Services for over 25 years until her retirement in February 2006. Renee was always a leader and involved in numerous community organizations on the local and state levels. Renee served as a city council woman in Madison, WV under Mayor Andy Dolin for 8 years, and with current Mayor Sonny Howell for 9 years. During her elected terms she served as a Mentor for the Madison Police in regards to healthcare compliance. After her retirement she also volunteered at the Boone County Coal Heritage Museum. Renee was also a member of the Eastern Star.

Renee was an avid reader from an early age. She has read thousands of books in her lifetime, enjoying biographies and novels most. She enjoyed shopping and thoroughly enjoyed traveling, but most of all spending time with friends and family. She was extremely kind and compassionate person to everyone she met. She will missed dearly by many colleagues, friends and family.

She is survived by her sons, Michael Scott (Beth) Hager of Fairborn, Ohio, and Craig Linn (Whitney) Hager of Madison; her grandson, United States Marine Corps Corporal Gregory Neal Hager of Okinawa, Japan and granddaughter, Scotti Ann Hager, step-grandchildren, David Price, Ashley Ball and Dean Michael Eggenschwiller, and 4 step-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her step mother Phyllis Dolin, her aunt Sherry Bias Ball of Hewett, along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 am on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV with Paul Eldridge and Rev. Roger McCauley officiating. Entombment will follow at Memory Gardens, Madison. Pallbearers will include friends and family.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Lastly, Renee was an extremely devoted employee, and later in life a volunteer for Boone Memorial Hospital. A room is being named in her memory at the new Boone Memorial Hospital, scheduled to open in spring 2016. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests donations be made to the New Boone Memorial Hospital Capital Campaign in Memory of Renee Hager.
