John Edward Zontini

July 30, 1938 — February 16, 2015

John Edward Zontini, formerly of Huntington, West Virginia passed on February 16, 2015 after a brief illness at his home in Jacksonville, Florida.

John is survived by his wife of 33 years, Bobbie Zontini of Jacksonville, Florida; children, Rudy, Jane, Cuffy, Doug and their spouses; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous cousins and friends.

John lived most of his life in the state he called home here in West Virginia. John was born in Whitesville to the son of a coal miner. He joined the United States Army and served his country which set the stage later in life for his role in Florida government. John married once to the love of his life, Bobbie Jean who was widowed herself and they made their life back in Florida in 1982. John was surrounded by the love of his new family and their children and started a new career becoming a well-respected professional Corrections officer at Florida’s maximum security prison. Far from West Virginia, he never forgot his roots and the belief that a person should not be judged, but shown respect in both good and rough times.

John was selfless in his love for his fellow man and his stepchildren and grandchildren. A devoted citizen and mentor to all of us, he is missed and joined in the hands of God.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 21 at Memory Gardens, Madison, WV.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Handley Funeral Home, Danville.
