Jesse Elmo Huff

July 4, 1951 — November 20, 2013

The bell has echoed, the ship is packed, for the Lord his Savior has called him back. His life’s voyage of earth now concluded, Jesse Elmo Huff, 62, of New Haven, WV, formerly of Clothier, WV took the ultimate voyage with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013 after being cared for at home by his wife and two sons. Jesse was born on July 4, 1951 in Benham, KY.

Jesse was a dedicated member of the UMWA and retired after 35 years of faithful service. His work ethic was displayed at Consol Coal Company, Southern Ohio Coal, and Westmoreland Coal Company. A testament to his character, he never shirked a task and always worked lengthy hours, yet always managed time for his family he loved so dearly. He was an accomplished mechanic and electrician. It was known that if something needed fixed, he was your man!

For a true portrayal of his favorite hobby, think no further than a man and his boat. He loved living by the Ohio River where he navigated for years finding the perfect spot for the big catch. He participated in many tournaments, winning several, but it was his passion for the sport that will live on through the knowledge passed on to his sons.
Jesse also loved the ocean and treasured the yearly trek made by his family to Myrtle Beach, SC.

Jesse loved his home. He had a green thumb and grew one of the most beautiful gardens sharing the harvest with countless others. He was often teased as the happy mower because he delighted in caring for the yard and would often wave as others passed by. It was not unusual to see him sitting in his garage, door open, making his home made lures as he looked out on the neighborhood. If a man’s worth is decided by what he values he was a very rich man. In his eyes he had it all, family, friends and God’s Amazing Grace.

Jesse was a 1969 graduate of Sharples High School. He was preceded in death by his parents John E and Sally Huff of Clothier, WV.

He leaves his wife of 41 yrs., Peggy Ellison Huff of New Haven; two sons, MSgt Douglas Stover Huff, USAF Dayton, OH and Jesse Grant Huff of Charleston, SC.; sisters, Sue (David) Quisenberry of Ottawa, Melissa (Mark) Summers of Julian, several aunts, uncles and extended family.

The family would like to thank Hospice for their guidance and compassion shown to the family and especially to Jesse. There truly are angels among us.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Handley Funeral Home Danville with Edsel Alshire officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Madison. Friends may call from 6-8pm Friday Nov. 22 at Foglesong-Roush Funeral Home Mason, WV and from 6-8pm Saturday, Nov. 23 at Handley Funeral Home Danville.
