Jennings W. "Abb" Davis

July 9, 1931 — November 8, 2014

Jennings Walter "Abb" Davis, 83, of West Hamlin, WV passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2014 after an extended illness. He was the son of the late Algie and Ruby Davis of Midkiff, WV.

"Abb" is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sharon Fellure Davis; a daughter, Amy (Steven) Parsons; two grandsons, Nathan and LCpl Samuel (Kayla) Parsons; one sister, Florence (Joseph) Harner; one brother-in-law, Maurice (Barbara) Fellure; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by seven sisters- Lucille Davis, Cieva Lucas, Kate Dotson, Edith Davis, Beaulah Litz, Bertie McComas, Ruth Davis; and four brothers-Thomas, John, Herbert and James "Poke" Davis.

"Abb" began working in the field of construction at the age of 15; was interrupted by a two year term in the U.S. Army during the Korean War; returned to construction and became a Construction Contractor for several years. He retired from the Lincoln County Board of Education as a vocational instructor of Building and Construction at the Charles Yeager Career Center in Hamlin, WV.

"Abb" had been a Christian for 50 years. He studied the Bible, was well versed in the scriptures, and lived his faith. He sang with several quartets, choirs, and other singing groups- as well as writing songs. He was a member of the Bloomingdale-Salem Baptist Church, Barboursville, WV. He had a great sense of humor which he never lost, even through his illness.

Friends may call from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday evening at the McGhee-Handley Funeral Home in West Hamlin. Services will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 with Pastor Jeff Sizemore, Rev. Thomas Jeffrey, and Pastor Rick Tanner officiating. Burial will be in the Enon Cemetery, Salt Rock, WV.
