James Otis "J.O." Bias

James Otis “J.O.” Bias, 81, of Hewett went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, June 19, 2014 after a long illness.

He was born September 14, 1932 at Hewett and was a son of the late Manduval “Bunker” Bias and Leora Baldwin Bias of Hewett. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Helen; brothers, Joe Bias of Jeffrey and Eugene Bias of Hewett; and sisters, Ruth Dolin of Madison, Darlene Hager and Christine Akers both of Hewett.

He is survived by his son, Mike (Beth) Bias and two grandsons, Jaxon and Layne Bias all of Huntington; his sister and caregiver with whom he resided, Sherry Ball of Hewett; and nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He was an avid fan of Nascar and dirt bikes. He was the mechanic and traveled with his son Mike who raced on the dirt bike circuit for many years traveling from Florida up the coast including the Madison Square Garden. He enjoyed vintage vehicles, entering his “Little Red Truck” in numerous car shows.

He was a Navy veteran having served on the USS Kearsarge, traveling all over the world including China and Hawaii. He retired from Inco Alloys in Huntington after working for 31 years. He was a Christian. He enjoyed life and will be missed by many family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2014 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with the Rev. Roger McCauley and Danny Spencer officiating. A military service will be provided by Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578, Madison, WV.
