Jack Alton Roy

August 19, 1927 — June 17, 2016

Jack Alton Roy, 88, passed away in his home surrounded by love on June 17, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alene McComas Roy and his brother, Thomas Roy. He was the son of the late Basil Damarcus Roy and Sarah Anne Midkiff Roy.

He is survived by his daughter Jacquelyn Roy Blankenship and son-in-law Terry E. Blankenship and his son Joe Roy and daughter-in-law Hope Pratt Roy. He was blessed with four grandsons and their families: Justin Blankenship and wife Christie and their children, Catherine, John and Elizabeth, Jared Blankenship and wife Sarah and their children Dakota, Levi, Jack Troy and Leah Kate, Jonathan Roy and wife Laura and son Andrew, Stephen Roy and wife Ally, and their son Max and his sister, Anne Roy Cummings; two sisters-in-law, Geneva Powell and Lucille Roy.

His family expresses gratitude for the love and care from his caregivers; with thankful hearts we especially recognize Melissa Brickles, Chris Burns, and Brandy Donahue. His teams of practitioners from the VA Hospital, Lincoln County Opportunity Company, and Hospice are especially appreciated.

His life journey included joining the Navy when he was underage, later graduating from Guyan Valley High School, attending Marshall College and Huntington Vo-Tech School. He worked as a welder for Columbia Gas Transmissions, and retired as a district supervisor. Jack enjoyed working on his farm, citizen band radio, amateur radio, tinkering with electronics and golf.

In the 40’s he and some friends set up their own radio station and broadcasted to a large area as adolescents. The government was very surprised when they located this unlicensed station in a home being run by ‘kids’. He was a deacon, Sunday School teacher and member of Camp Branch United Baptist church for many years and later a member of Lincoln Baptist Church where he has served as Sunday School Superintendent and jack of all trades. Most of all, he loved God and loved people. If you knew him, take a moment to reflect on some memories you have.

In lieu of flowers, should you be so inclined, donations to the Veterans Administration Hospital, Huntington, WV through their social workers to help veterans in need or to Hospice House of Huntington to provide for families there would honor him.

Visitation will be Monday, June 20, 6:30-8:30 PM and Funeral Services will be Tuesday, June 21 at 11:00 AM , both at Lincoln Baptist Church, Branchland, WV. Burial will follow at Slone Cemetery.
