Irene Grace Workman age, 88, of Seth, WV died Thursday, May 28 2015 at the Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston.
She was born November 25, 1926 in Foster, WV a daughter of the late Bessie Mamie Gunnoe and Russell Halstead. In addition to her mother and father she was preceded in death by son, William Pal Workman; husband, Benjamin Isaac Workman; son, Stephen R. Workman Sr.; brothers, Lako, Claude and Bernard; sisters, Mary Golden, Katherine, Gertrude and Thelma Halstead; and grandson Clyde Workman III.
She is survived by her one daughter, Wanda Workman and husband Clyde Workman of Seth, WV; grandkids, Stephen R. Workman Jr. and wife Brandi of Jacksonville, NC, Shawn R. Workman and wife April of Jacksonville, Joseph E. Workman of Seth WV and Consuela L. Keener and husband Jason of Summersville, WV; great-grandkids, Alisha Workman, Sabrina Workman, Stephen Workman, Joey Workman, Michael Monhollen, Shawn Workman, Hunter Workman, Colten Keener, Jace Keener and Faith Workman.
Irene was raised in Drawdy, WV. She loved nature, traveling and baking. She and Bennie had been to almost every state and had a state sticker on the old van window. There was never a day when you would walk into her home and she would not ask if you were hungry, she was always ready to please, putting everyone else’s concern above her own. She worked as a baker and cook for many years before becoming a homemaker. She could bake the best candy, cake and pie and wow the gravy and biscuits. For the past few years she spent her time at the senior citizens center, delivering meals to the elderly. She loved her grand and great-grandkids so very much, spending time with them and teaching them. She brought great joy to all and will be remembered for her hospitality and kindness.
Funeral Services will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Handley Funeral Home Danville, WV with Atholl Halstead officiating. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until service time.
Burial will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Drawdy Cemetery, Drawdy, WV.
