Dorothy "Dot" Alice Kopsolias-Hartman

December 4, 1932 — April 22, 2014

Dorothy "Dot" Alice Kopsolias Hartman, age 81, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at her home where she was surrounded by her family. She resided in Huntington, WV with her sister, Marie Leist, who has taken care of her for many years with the help of a special niece, Judy Kopsolias. She had suffered many years with the mentally and physically disabling disease of Alzheimer's.

Dot was born December 4, 1932, in Mallory, WV, to the late John Nicholas and Euna Maude Scites Kopsolias. She was raised on a family farm in Branchland, WV with three brothers and one sister. She graduated from Guyan Valley High School in Pleasant View, WV. First and foremost she was a single-mother who devoted her life to her only daughter, Lana Gail. She dedicated her life to helping people, and for 37 years worked as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (LPTA) at Cabell-Huntington Hospital. She was a member of the local 1199 Union for many years, always determined to ensure she and her co-workers had good benefits and reasonable salaries. She was saved and baptized at the age of 12 and became a member of the Mildred United Baptist Church in Branchland, WV. After moving to Huntington in the early 1960's, she became a member of the Eighteenth Street United Baptist Church, Huntington, WV, where she was extremely active until her later years in life. She held various positions during the years; Sunday school teacher, VBS teacher, choir member, and she also held positions of President and Vice President of the Ladies Circle. She also served many years as a delegate for the church Fieldworker meeting and at the Sunday School Convention of the Bethlehem Association. For many years she served as the head cook during the Association's Convention, planning menus, ordering food and paper supplies, recruiting kitchen helpers, and overseeing the preparation of meals for sometimes over 400 people.
She was a dedicated servant of God.

She is survived by her sister, Violet Marie Kopsolias Leist (Charles) of Huntington, WV, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, which she loved dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Lana Gail Hartman Smith; three brothers, Manuel Lester (Oneida), George Edward, (Nevada), and Billie Lee (Kathleen) Kopsolias.
