Donald Lee Saunders, 88, of Chapmanville, WV passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at his home.
He was born August 27, 1924 in Logan County and was a son of the late Johnnie and Lena Chandler Saunders. He was also preceded in his dog Lucy, who was his great companion.
He is survived by his wife, Odessa Barker Saunders; children, Linda Griffith, Danny (Mary) Saunders and Donald R. (Melinda) Saunders; grandchildren, Mark Griffith, Stacey Sanderson, Geoffrey Saunders, Maryann Preston, Kayla Saunders and Erin Lewis; great-grandchildren, Raiyah Lyter-Griffith, Ry Lyter-Griffith, Asa Lyter-Griffith, Dakota Saunders, Luke Saunders, Autumn Preston and Terra Preston.
His siblings include sisters, Edna Mae Barker (deceased) and Evelyn Thomas; and five brothers.
He worked at Citgo Gas Company with 40 years of service. He was a member of Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church. He was a WWII Army veteran and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the VFW Post #6153. He loved spending time with this family.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 23 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with the Rev. Tom Bias officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Godby. Pallbearers will be Donald R. Saunders, Jason Lewis, Mark Griffith, Geoffrey Saunders, Dakota Saunders and Danny Saunders.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
