Denver Ray Spurlock

November 28, 1952 — February 27, 2014

Denver Ray Spurlock, 61, of Drawdy lost his battle with cancer Feb. 27, 2014 at Eastbrook Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Elvetta Spurlock of Drawdy; and brother, Denzil Earl Spurlock.

Denver was born Nov. 28, 1952 in Boone County. He graduated from Scott High and was a coal miner in his early life. He was good at shingling roofs, carpentry and doing odd jobs where needed.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Douglas Cook of Summersville and Tina and Denver Whittaker of Florida; and two grandsons, Andrew and Jonathon. Denver is also survived by 15 sibblings and their spouses: sisters, Esta and Reldo Miller of Lick Creek, Nadine McKinney of Drawdy, Linda Clay of Madison, Brenda and Ray Cook of Madison, Juanita and Harrison Brown of KY; brothers, Darrell and Oleta of Danville, Eugene and Joyce of Orgas, Harold and Linda of Huntington, Sherrill of Madison, Lanny of Drawdy, Wayne and Sue of Morrisvale, Gilbert and Ruth of Wayne, Jerry and Ruby of Virginia, Jackie of Madison and Rickey and Tami of Morrisvale; and one uncle, Theron Linville of Huntington.

Services will be 2 pm Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Eugene Spurlock Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Family Gardens, Low Gap.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
