Charles Everett Elkins 85 of Hamlin, WV died April 23, 2014 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, WV.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dallie G. and Bessie Chaney Elkins.
He was an educator and coach for 44 years serving as head basketball coach 32 years at Hamlin High School and principal five years. He was a1952 graduate of WV Wesleyan College, member of Wesleyan Athletic Hall of Fame, and the West Virginia Wesleyan Charles Elkins Alumni Award.
He was a member of Hamlin United Methodist Church; past president of Hamlin Lions Club, past president WV Coaches Association and a member of the Hamlin Masonic Lodge #79.
He is survived by his wife; Rose Marie Black Elkins, sons; Chuck (Debbie) Elkins of Winfield, and Bill (Sonda) of Hamlin, brother; Carl (Barbara) Elkins of Hamlin, grandchildren; Amber (Brian) Vance, Ashley(Jason) Linville, Andrew and Alex Elkins, Megan (Justin) Hannah, Lindsay (Chris)Rotella, and Emma Elkins, great grandchildren; Audrey, Sarah and Maggie Vance, Will Linville, and Parker Hannah.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014 Handley Funeral Home, Hamlin, with Rev. Robert Fulton and David Burch officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln Memorial Park, Hamlin with Masonic graveside services.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the Charles E. Elkins Gymnasium Hamlin School.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be mailed to Hamlin United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 8041 Lynn Ave. Hamlin, WV 25523.
