Anna Mae Holbrook

July 25, 1940 — September 4, 2013

Anna Mae Holbrook, 73, of Bigson, West Virginia went through the gates of heaven with a smile on her face on Wednesday, September 4, 2013.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Lonnie and Alva McNeely; brothers, Thurman McNeely, Junior McNeely and Harold NcNeely; and sisters, Opal Overton, Nina Bias and Betty Ball. Also preceding her in death was her son-in-law, William David Griffis.

Anna is survived by her beloved husband, Elwood Holbrook of Bigson, WV; daughters, Karen Griffis, Charlotte Castle, her husand Mike Castle, and Debbie Hobrook all of Bigson, WV. Also surviving her are two granddaughters, Jade Halstead (Baby Jade) and her husband Jesse Halstead of Charleston, WV and Destiny Castle (Mamaws Angel) of Bigson, WV; three step-grandchildren, Lacy Hughes of Ohio, Desiree’ Griffis of Brunswick, Ohio and Jeremiah Griffis of Charleston, WV and two step-great-grandchildren, Adam and Dylan Buskirk of Brunswick, Ohio.

She was a devoted loving wife, mother, and grandmother and a dedicated Christian. Anna Mae touched so many lives and never met a stranger. She was a dedicated Christian and loved the Lord with all her heart. She taught her children from birth about God’s love and to always lean on Him. She devoted her life to her family and pushed onward for her children no matter how sick she may have been. She had a love for God’s creatures and lovingly called herself “mamaw” to her children’s pets. She prayed for the animals as well when they were sick or hurting. We have lost the greatest, most loving and Godfearing woman we know…. but we know she is walking on streets of gold. We are honored to have had her in our lives, but now must turn her over to her Lord for the unimaginable joy she is having in Heaven.

The family would like to thank Boone Memorial Hospital and Cabell Huntington Hospital for all they did and for the wonderful care she was given. We would like to give honorable mention to her night shift nurse, Katie, at Cabell Huntington Hospital who went above and beyond the call of duty for Anna Mae and the family. She is the true definition of a nurse. Also the family would like to thank everyone for their continued prayers during this hard time. Also the family would like to thank Bernice Walls, Tina Wellman and Kori Mize for being there during our time of need and offering so much support and love to us all.

At her request, Anna Mae did not want any flowers sent to her funeral. Her wish was that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the family for any final needs.

Services will be 11 a.m. Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Jessie Perdue officiating. Burial will follow in Family Gardens, Madison.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2013, at the funeral home.
